Bowker Motor Group has raised over £250 for Macmillan Cancer Support following a series of staff-led Coffee Morning events across its sites in Blackburn and Preston.
Both staff and customers took part in the events, which featured cakes baked or brought in by employees to raise money as part of the charity’s national fundraising initiative.
Staff contributed through cake sales, games and donations, with events taking place during the last week of September to coincide with Macmillan’s official Coffee Morning date. The funds raised will help Macmillan provide specialist healthcare, support, and information to people affected by cancer.
Jonathan Rogan, director at Bowker Motor Group, said: “We’re lucky to have so many generous and talented bakers across our teams. Everyone got involved – whether it was baking, buying or just turning up for a brew. It was a great way to come together and do something meaningful.”
The Macmillan Coffee Morning is one of the UK’s largest fundraising events, first launched in 1990. In 2024, more than 52,000 Coffee Mornings were held nationwide, raising £17.1 million to support over 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK.
The charity is 98% funded by voluntary donations and provides services including Macmillan nurses, emotional support, and financial advice. Events like the Coffee Morning help fund these services at a time when cancer diagnoses and survivorship are both increasing across the country.
Jonathan Rogan said: “Almost everyone knows someone affected by cancer, so it really matters to support a charity like Macmillan. It’s not just about the money – it’s about showing people they’re not alone.”
