Blackburn BMX racer Maisie Egan has completed her 2026 season fourth overall in the British BMX National Series after returning from a broken arm that cost her ten weeks of winter training.
The Bowker MINI-sponsored rider competed in the UK, France and Australia during the season, reaching the semi-finals of the European Championships in Sarrians, where she finished 14th overall, and the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Australia, finishing 24th in the 12 Girls category.
Maisie also won on both days of the Queensland State Championships while in Australia. In the UK National Series, she took second places in Glasgow and Cardiff and third at Gosport. She finished fourth overall despite missing two National rounds while competing overseas, and was fifth at the British Championships.
Mark Egan, Maisie’s dad, said: “At the start of the year, the biggest challenge wasn’t really results. It was helping Maisie get her confidence back after the crash. She had missed ten weeks of winter training and there was understandably some fear there when she returned to racing.
“What has impressed us most is how she adapted. She has often been used to getting out in front, but this year she had to learn how to race in the pack, make decisions quickly and find places to pass. She has become a braver and more complete racer because of it.”
Maisie also recorded two wins and two second places in the North Region during the season. Her fourth-place finish in the National Series followed third overall in 2025, when she competed in the 11–12 Girls category at events in the UK and Europe.
Bowker MINI in Blackburn first began sponsoring Maisie in 2025 following her national title wins the previous year. Its support helps towards travel, race entry fees and equipment as she competes at events in the UK and overseas, with Bowker branding featuring on her race helmet.
Sebastian Cerami, for Bowker MINI, said: “When we renewed our support at the start of the season, Maisie was just coming back from a nasty injury, so it has been great to watch how her year has developed.
“The results speak for themselves, but perhaps the biggest achievement has been seeing her rebuild that confidence and keep pushing herself against some of the best young riders in the world. We’re very proud to have played a small part in her season.”
Maisie will now begin preparations for the 2027 season following a campaign that included top-five finishes in both the British National Series and British Championships, alongside appearances in the latter stages of the European and World Championships.
