As the team catches its breath from a very challenging, but full on weekend of racing that saw Joe Francis secure his best BSB finish of the season, Sullivan Mounsey recording the fastest lap time in the British Talent Cup [Race 3] and Dan Jones having two top 5 finishes in the GP2 class.
Joe Francis achieved his best finish of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship season so far with a P5 finish in the third feature race of the weekend. However, Round 5 at Donington Park in Leicestershire did not start so promising, after a crash in Friday’s free practice found Joe with very little track time, due to mechanical issues and having only complete a single lap in Race 1.
A good start in Race 2 found the Chester-based rider chasing down that all elusive top 15 place, only to retire just outside the points on lap 18 out of 28, due to a painful right arm he sustained from the crash a few days earlier.
After a short rain shower at the start of Race 3 saw a red flag and a wet race declared, it was an inspired decision from Joe to go with a tyre choice of a rear slick and intermediate front on his BMW M 1000 RR, bucking the trend of the other riders in Race 3 [part 2]. Joe’s mental fortitude to come back in Race 3 from two DNFs to finish so high was remarkable.
“The gamble clearly paid off,” Joe said. “It’s really nice for the team, with everything that has happened with Brad, we wish him a fast recovery and can’t wait to have him back in the garage.”
Joe concluded. “The team put in a great effort and worked incredibly hard all weekend, changing engines, being up late, they’ve not stopped, so a big thank you must go to them in getting the bike into a position to come home with such a good result.”
The result gives Joe a massive 11 points in the Championship, his first of the season.
