Dealership Valeting Experts Save Pendle College Car Wash Fundraiser

Pendle Community College in Nelson will continue with a staff car wash fundraising initiative thanks to an intensive session of car wash training from Bowker Ribble Valley in Osbaldeston.

Last week, the car wash fundraiser looked doomed when more than 20 staff cars were washed but not any visibly cleaner for it.

Students aged between 16 and 19 with special needs had formed a car wash team to raise funds to help buy new equipment and subsidise events and trips.

Melanie Randal, teaching assistant at Pendle College said,

“The students have been working hard. But the results haven’t reflected the effort they have been putting in. We were at the point of calling it a day when I asked Bowker Ribble Valley if I could bring a small group of students to get some tips from their valetors.

“Bowker lined up some cars and showed us how the experts do it. I think one of the challenges that became apparent was that the team’s sense of fun meant they were getting as much soapy water on each other as they were on the cars! Learning from the experts will help the students focus.

For Bowker Ribble Valley Gareth Davey said,

“They are a willing team and plainly keen to work hard to raise some funds for the college. It’s difficult to work out what’s been going wrong. The cars they cleaned with our guidance were shining by the time they finished. I have every confidence that Pendle Community College will have some gleaming cars in its car park very soon.”

The car wash fundraiser was organised as part of weekly Mini Enterprise lessons at the College. In the past students have organised Easter and Christmas Fairs, made personalised gifts and run a valentines day shop.

The money raised will help to provide additional resources identified by the Student Council including an electric drum kit, guitars, karaoke machine, bikes and a Nintendo Wii.
