When designing the Ghibli S, Maserati drew on all its experience in the manufacturing of GT cars of unmistakable class and top-quality performance, thrilling to drive yet comfortable, to create a unique, eye-catching and extraordinary sedan. A sporty soul that is immediately clear from the sculpted forms of the body, linked by clearly defined lines that generate movement.

Countless details that recall the unmistakable Maserati design tradition

A closer look at the car’s streamlined silhouette reveals a host of references to the Maserati tradition. The concave vertical fillets of the radiator grille are inspired by the GranTurismo and the A6 GCS Berlinetta, a famous icon from the past; also noticeable are the three large air vents behind the front wheels, with their new, more modern look, and the iconic oval Maserati “Saetta” logo on the triangular C-pillar.

With its emphasis on sporty glamour the Ghibli S’s design is a delight to behold and, just like the first Ghibli launched back in 1967, designed by the young Giorgetto Giugiaro, it captivates with its strong personality. The nose of the car is dominated by the distinctive Maserati radiator grille: although inspired by the traditional oval shape, it acquires a more rectangular form and narrows at the top, where it meets the aggressive front headlights.

The lines along the side create movement for a more dynamic look

The frameless door windows help to give the car the look of a sleek coupé, even though its length and wheelbase are amongst the longest in the class. The side of the car is defined by two curvy lines that converge before giving way to the muscular rear: the tapered design of the boot is the natural continuation of the cabin, and the two LED lights provide continuity with the mudguards.

The car’s personality is made even more aggressive by the 18” diamond alloy wheels (standard) with a new 12-spoke design, while the 19”, 20” and forged 21” wheels underline its elegant or sporty spirit. The soft leather and exquisite contrast stitching, the epitome of traditional craftsmanship, are essential features of every Maserati: on the Ghibli S, leather is used as standard on the seats and can also be used on the dashboard and the door to create original two-tone combinations. Not to mention the care to detail that is evident in the finishes on the central tunnel and the door trims.

The middle of the dashboard is dominated by the traditional Maserati clock with blue face and aluminium details and the large 8.4” display of the Maserati Touch Control, the access portal for the entertainment technologies and control centre for most of the on-board devices. The car’s driver-oriented settings are controlled by a cluster of push-buttons on the central tunnel, beside the gear lever.

MINIMALIST BUT STRIKING INSTRUMENT PANEL

Behind the ergonomic three-spoke leather-clad steering-wheel with controls for interacting with the main multimedia functions there is a simple yet striking instrument panel: the large speedometer and rpm-counter have elegant white backlighting and are separated by a 7” TFT display that shows the car’s dynamic data.

The all-electric front seat adjustment system makes it easy to achieve the perfect driving position in terms of height, depth and the angle of the back and seat, and also includes four different lumbar support settings and the optional new pedal height adjustment system, operated by a control in the front of the driving seat.*

The 2.979 litre Twin Turbo V6 installed on the Ghibli S is designed to provide a powerful driving experience; it generates 410 horsepower (301 kW) at 5,500 rpm and in Sport mode reaches a maximum torque of 550 Nm at just 1,750 rpm. The amazing specific torque value of 183 Nm per litre ensures an aggressive response that will deliver pure excitement with the slightest touch of the right foot.

The V6 engine is fitted with twin parallel-mounted low-inertia turbines, which reduce turbo lag to give greater elasticity. Other innovative solutions, designed to ensure greater fuel efficiency, include the high pressure (200 bar) direct injection system, which helps to improve combustion at all rpm, and the use of two continuous phase timing variators on both cylinder heads.

Placing the turbines in the exhaust manifolds has enabled the Maserati engineers to come up with a compact, lightweight exhaust system which, as on all Maserati models, also includes an air valve system capable of adding extra colour to the engine sound: in I.C.E. and Normal modes the valves remain closed, but when the Sport button is pressed they stay open all the time, releasing a thrilling, powerful roar.

The Ghibli S’s powerful Brembo brakes have dual-cast discs, which combine the properties of cast iron with the light weight of aluminium, helping to reduce the unsprung mass. Braking power is provided by efficient monobloc calipers, with 6 pistons at the front and 4 at the rear, acting on ventilated, slotted discs of 360 mm x 32 mm and 350 mm x 28 mm respectively.

The double-wishbone front and five-arm multilink rear suspensions are designed to reconcile ride comfort with sporty handling. A great deal of attention has been focused on weight reduction: a large number of components are in lightweight aluminium, while the front stabiliser bar is hollow. The latest version of the Skyhook electronic system, with shocks featuring continuous damping variation, is available on request.

For those seeking even greater luxury, the entire interior can be upholstered in even higher quality leather produced by Poltrona Frau® using the finest traditional methods.

Elegant or sporty finishes

Burr walnut, an exquisite, extremely tactile open-pore wood with a wealth of knots and vein patterning, clads the central tunnel and front and rear door panel trims. For those wishing to further emphasise the elegance or sporty character of their car’s interior, glossy Ebony and carbon fibre finishes are also available on request.

The brushed aluminium Active Shift gear shift paddles, mounted behind the steering wheel and integrated in the steering column, are the ideal option for those in search of a more dynamic look and deliver complete control of gear shifts regardless of road conditions.
